Therapy, Consultation, Supervision & Speaking
— What's the Difference?
I wear several professional hats. That's not an accident — it's the result of building a career that intentionally spans direct clinical work, peer professional support, and education. But it does mean that when someone reaches out, the first question is often: which version of this work are you actually looking for?
This page exists to answer that.
Therapy
Therapy is a clinical service. It involves diagnosis, treatment planning, and a licensed therapeutic relationship governed by state law and professional ethics codes.
I practice as a licensed therapist through Whole Mentality, PLLC — my group practice in Raleigh, NC. If you're looking for therapy, that's where you go.
Therapy through Whole Mentality might be right for you if:
You're navigating unprocessed trauma, a mental health diagnosis, or significant life stress
You're looking for EMDR therapy as a client
You're in North Carolina and want to use insurance (we accept BCBS, Aetna, Cigna, Ambetter, and the NC State Health Plan)
Therapy is NOT what Erica Kendra, LLC offers. Working with me through this site does not create a therapist-client relationship, and will prevent any future therapist-client relationship.
EMDR Consultation
EMDR consultation is a professional service for clinicians — not clients. If you are an EMDR-trained therapist seeking consultation hours toward EMDRIA certification, or a certified therapist who wants to deepen your practice, this is the service for you.
I am an EMDRIA Approved Consultant, which means I've met the clinical hours, training, and peer review requirements set by the EMDR International Association to formally consult with other clinicians on their EMDR work.
EMDR consultation is offered through Whole Mentality, PLLC for ethical and licensure reasons — but it is marketed and positioned here because it's part of my professional identity as a clinician, educator, and thought leader in EMDR practice.
EMDR consultation might be right for you if:
You've completed EMDR Basic Training and are working toward EMDRIA certification
You want structured case consultation on complex trauma presentations
You're a certified EMDR therapist working toward Approved Consultant status and need consultation on your consultees
You're an organization looking to bring EMDR consultation in-house for your clinical team
EMDR consultation is NOT therapy. We are peers in a professional context, not clinician and client.
Clinical supervision
Clinical supervision is a formal professional relationship for Licensed Clinical Social Work Associates (LCSWAs) in North Carolina working toward full LCSW licensure. I am an approved supervisor through the NC Social Work Certification and Licensure Board.
Supervision is offered through Whole Mentality, PLLC.
Clinical supervision might be right for you if:
You hold an LCSWA license in North Carolina
You are actively accumulating supervised hours toward LCSW licensure
You want a supervisor with a trauma-informed, anti-oppressive clinical framework
You want honest, direct supervision — not just someone to sign your hours
Clinical supervision is NOT therapy or consultation. It is an evaluative professional relationship with specific legal and ethical obligations on both sides.
Speaking & Training
Speaking and training is an educational service for organizations, conferences, and leadership teams. It does not create a clinical or supervisory relationship of any kind.
Speaking & training might be right for you if:
You're a mental health organization, conference, or leadership team looking for a keynote, workshop, or training
You want content at the intersection of EMDR clinical practice, trauma-informed systems, or equity in mental health
You're a group practice owner or clinical director looking for staff training
The Dual Relationship question
Because I am a licensed therapist, I take dual relationships seriously. Here's what that means practically:
If you are currently (or previously) a therapy client at Whole Mentality, you cannot also be my EMDR consultee, supervisee, or hire me for organizational consulting. The therapeutic relationship takes precedence and creating additional professional relationships on top of it creates ethical conflicts I won't navigate around.
If you are my EMDR consultee or supervisee, you are not my therapy client. If it becomes clear that therapy is what you actually need, I will say so directly and provide referrals. There can be some overlapping roles as long as NONE of the roles are a clinical one.
If you've hired me for speaking or training, a professional or organizational relationship exists — not a clinical one.
When in doubt, reach out and ask. I'd rather clarify upfront than have anyone navigate the wrong door.
