Frequently Asked Questions

Clinicians, organizations, and supervisees ask these most. If your question isn't here, the Contact page is the fastest way to get an answer.

EMDR Consultation

What is EMDR consultation and who is it for?

EMDR consultation is a professional service for EMDR-trained clinicians — not therapy clients. If you've completed EMDR Basic Training and are working toward EMDRIA certification, you need consultation hours with an EMDRIA Approved Consultant. That's this.

Consultation is also available for certified EMDR therapists who want a thinking partner for complex cases, or who are working toward their own Approved Consultant status and need consultation on their consultees.

What does "EMDRIA Approved Consultant" actually mean?

It means I've met the clinical hours, training, and peer review requirements set by the EMDR International Association (EMDRIA) to formally consult with other EMDR-trained clinicians on their caseloads. It's a specific credential — not every EMDR therapist, and not every EMDR-certified therapist, is an Approved Consultant. If you're working toward EMDRIA certification, you need consultation hours with someone who holds this credential specifically.

What formats do you offer for EMDR consultation?

Individual consultation, group consultation, and packages. Individual sessions are one-on-one case consultation. Group consultation involves a small cohort of EMDR clinicians presenting cases and learning from each other's work. Packages are available for clinicians who want a set number of hours toward certification.

Why is EMDR consultation billed through Whole Mentality and not directly through itsericakendra.com?

Because I'm a licensed clinician and EMDR consultation is a professional clinical service — for ethical and licensure reasons, it's offered through my licensed practice entity, Whole Mentality, PLLC. The expertise, the framework, and the thinking behind it live here. The intake and billing live there. This is normal and intentional.

Can my current therapist also be my EMDR consultant?

No. EMDRIA ethics and professional standards prohibit dual relationships. Your EMDR consultant cannot also be your therapist. These are separate professional relationships that must remain distinct. If you're unclear about whether a dual relationship exists in your situation, that's worth raising directly before starting consultation.

How many consultation hours do I need for EMDRIA certification?

EMDRIA certification requires 20 hours of consultation with an EMDRIA Approved Consultant, among other requirements. For the full and current requirements, check EMDRIA's website directly — requirements can change and I want you to have the most accurate information.

Do you offer organizational EMDR consultation?

Yes — I work with organizations looking to build EMDR capacity within their clinical teams. This looks different than individual consultation and is scoped based on organizational need. Reach out via the Contact page to start that conversation.

Clinical Supervision

Who is clinical supervision for?
Clinical supervision is for Licensed Clinical Social Work Associates (LCSWAs) in North Carolina who are accumulating supervised hours toward full LCSW licensure. I am an approved supervisor through the NC Social Work Certification and Licensure Board.

If you hold a different license type or are in a different state, I'm not the right supervisor for you — licensure requirements vary by credential and state.

What is your supervision style?

Direct, trauma-informed, and anti-oppressive. I give honest feedback. I take supervision seriously as a clinical and ethical responsibility, not just an hours-logging exercise. I'm interested in how you're developing as a clinician — not just whether you're meeting your caseload requirements.

If you want someone who will simply sign your hours without much engagement, I'm probably not the right fit.

How many supervision spots do you have?

I supervise a handful of LCSWAs and am almost at capacity. If you're interested, reach out sooner rather than later — spots fill and I don't maintain a waitlist indefinitely.

Is supervision offered in-person or virtually?

Both options are available. Reach out to discuss what works for your situation.

How is supervision different from consultation?

Supervision is a formal, evaluative relationship for pre-licensed clinicians working toward full licensure. It involves specific legal and ethical oversight responsibilities on my part and yours. Consultation is a peer-level professional service for already-licensed clinicians. They are distinct relationships with distinct purposes — and I cannot be both your supervisor and your consultant.

Speaking & Training

What topics do you speak on?

Two primary areas: EMDR clinical practice and trauma-informed systems and equity. Within EMDR, topics include the preparation phase, Natural Preparation framework, window of tolerance in practice, EMDR with chronic illness, and EMDR and racial trauma. Within systems and equity, topics include accessibility, burnout in helping professionals, anti-oppressive clinical practice, and moving beyond performative DEI in healthcare spaces.

All topics can be adapted for clinical or general public audiences. Custom topics are available. See the full list on the Speaking & Training page.

What formats do you offer for speaking and training?

Keynotes, workshops (60–90 minutes), half-day and full-day trainings, and panel participation. Available virtually or in-person. Travel fees apply for in-person engagements outside the Raleigh, NC / Triangle NC area.

How much does it cost to hire you as a speaker?

Speaking engagements start at $300/hour for smaller organizations and events. Pricing varies based on organization size, required preparation, travel, and topic customization. Reach out via the Contact page for a quote.

Who have you spoken for?

Past engagements include the North Carolina Society for Clinical Social Work, Wake AHEC, Southern Regional AHEC, Trauma Institute & Child Trauma Institute, Touchstone Institute, The Oley Foundation, IBM, and Kepro, among others.

Do you offer continuing education (CE) credits for trainings?

This depends on the engagement and the sponsoring organization. Some of my past trainings have been offered for ethics CEs through sponsoring organizations. Reach out to discuss what's possible for your specific event.

Store & Digital Products

Who are your digital products for?

Most products are designed for EMDR-trained clinicians and other mental health professionals. The EMDR preparation tools (Natural Preparation Toolkit, Window of Tolerance worksheets, Preparation Pack) are clinician-facing. The What Am I Feeling worksheet and Coping Skills worksheets are client-facing tools that clinicians use in session. The Hours Tracking Spreadsheet is for LCSWAs in North Carolina.

What is the Natural Preparation Toolkit?

It's a complete clinical toolkit for the Natural Preparation approach — a framework I developed for weaving Phase 3 Assessment questions into Phase 2 Preparation conversations. It includes a conversational prompt bank for all seven Assessment elements, a preparedness signals guide, implementation notes, and a fillable Client Preparedness Tracker. Available in the store for $18.

What is the Preparation Pack?

The Preparation Pack bundles the Natural Preparation Toolkit with the Window of Tolerance Worksheet set (adult and youth versions) — the two tools that most directly address preparation phase readiness. Available for $26 (saves $4 versus buying separately).

How do I download products after purchasing?

After completing your purchase through the Squarespace store, you'll receive an email with a download link. If you don't receive it within a few minutes, check your spam folder. If you're still having trouble, email erica@itsericakendra.com and I'll sort it out.

Are your products AI-generated?

Any products that are both AI-assisted and human-curated, indicate so! I say that explicitly because I think transparency about that matters. The clinical frameworks, the content decisions, the language, the examples, and the quality control are all mine. AI tools help with drafting and formatting. Every product reflects my actual clinical thinking and practice — not prompts handed to a chatbot and published. Honestly, the AI-curated means that I verbally brain dumped my process to Claude while in the car driving to and from work.

Can I use your worksheets with my clients?

Yes — that's what they're for. All client-facing worksheets (What Am I Feeling, Window of Tolerance, Coping Skills) are licensed for clinical use with your clients. You may not resell them, redistribute them digitally, or repackage them as your own products.

General

What is the difference between therapy, consultation, supervision, and speaking?

The full breakdown is on the Therapy vs. Consultation vs. Supervision page.  Short version: therapy is for clients and happens through Whole Mentality. Consultation and supervision are professional services for clinicians. Speaking and training is educational and organizational. None of them create a therapist-client relationship through this site.

Do you offer therapy through itsericakendra.com?

No. Therapy is offered through Whole Mentality, PLLC — my group practice in Raleigh, NC. If you're looking for therapy, that's where you go.

Are you taking new consultation clients or supervisees?

Consultation: yes, currently accepting individual and group consultees. Supervision: yes, with capacity for a couple of additional LCSWAs.

Both availability statuses are subject to change — reach out sooner rather than later.\
